Set up a wall display

Turn a tablet, monitor or TV with a browser into a shared kitchen display.

Pair the display

  1. On the display, open Nestday at /display. It shows a 6-character code and a QR code.
  2. An owner or admin scans the QR code with their phone, or goes to Settings › Displays › Pair a display and enters the code.
  3. Choose the household, give the display a name (like "Living Room Display"), pick what it starts out showing and check the privacy choices. The sheet lists what people in the room will see.
  4. Choose Pair display. The display switches to your household within a few seconds.

Codes expire after 10 minutes and work once; the display can show a new one at any time. The display gets its own limited access, never your account, and no one signs in on it.

Choose what it shows

In Settings › Displays, Customize layout picks the widgets (family members, today, coming up, chores, meals, shopping, to-do, notes, weather) and their order, with a live preview of the screen before you save. Settings changes the name, orientation, theme, privacy, what can be done on it, the screensaver and the sleep schedule. Each display has its own configuration, and changes reach it within seconds.

What a display can do

  • Anyone: open event details, check off chores and add or check list items (each can be turned off per display), switch between Today, Calendar, Chores, Lists and Meals.
  • With the household PIN: approve rewards, remove or clear list items, add events.
  • Never: settings, members, accounts or calendar connections.

These limits are enforced by the server. Set the PIN in Settings › Displays. After 3 wrong tries the display pauses for a minute.

Privacy

Private event details never reach a display; they show as Busy or are hidden. Notes and photos appear only if you mark them for displays.

Staying up to date

Changes made in Nestday appear on the display without a refresh. The bottom bar says Live while it is connected. If the network drops it says Reconnecting with the time of the information shown, and after two minutes a banner says it can't confirm the screen is current. It catches up on its own when the connection returns. Calendar links and Google calendars refresh on their own schedules (about every 30 minutes), and weather every 30 minutes, so those can lag behind.

Keeping it on

Nestday's sleep schedule blacks out the page but can't turn the screen off or keep the device awake. For an always-on display:

  • Turn off the device's auto-lock or screen timeout, or use a kiosk browser with "keep screen on".
  • Use the device's own schedule (for example Android "Schedule power on/off" or a smart plug) if you want the screen physically off at night.
  • Keep the browser tab open; Nestday reconnects after network drops and restarts.

Revoke a display

In Settings › Displays choose Revoke. The display loses access right away, clears what it was showing and returns to its setup screen. Refreshing or reopening the page does not bring access back; to use it again, pair it with a new code. If a display is lost or stolen, revoke it. Revoking can't undo what someone already saw or photographed.
